New Member Group Application Information
MaineShare accepts applications every other year. We currently fund 38 member groups. The application process is a competitive process. Due to the lackluster growth of the workplace campaign the past two years, and diminishing distributions to current member groups, MaineShare will not be accepting new member applications in 2010.
To qualify for MaineShare membership, an organization must be a 501-c-3, in existence at least 2 years, provide programs and services that cover the entire state of Maine, have a constituency of support (e.g. membership), and work on issues of prevention and solution to problems. All MaineShare member groups are required to pay yearly dues, contribute time and tasks to MaineShare, totaling 15 points (providing services and certain tasks as requested by the board or Executive Director), complete annual required documents and reports, and offer a MaineShare campaign at your organization if you have paid employees.
MaineShare dues are $250 per year for first year members and thereafter $250 plus 6% of the previous year's allocation. Yearly allocations to member groups are averaging about $7,300 a year at present. MaineShare has a growth policy and we only grow and accept new members based on the growth of our annual workplace giving campaign. Our campaign grows by having MaineShare offered as a payroll giving choice at more workplaces across the state. The number of organizations that we will be able to accept is limited.
